Minimally-Painful, Effective Laser Treatment

If you have been diagnosed with gum disease you should seek treatment promptly to reduce the risk of further damage to the teeth, gums, supporting tissues, and your overall health. Many patients put off treatment out of fear of surgery and lengthy recovery times. Here, Dr. Sawan Malik offers the LANAP® protocol, a laser gum disease treatment option that does not use scalpel or stitches. It is a less invasive alternative to traditional osseous surgery and a more comfortable option for patients. It is effective for treating periodontal disease and peri-implantitis (an infection near a dental implant).

Laser Gum Disease Treatment

Benefits of LANAP

Many patients enjoy a faster healing time and less time in the dentist’s chair when undergoing laser treatment. Some of the key benefits of LANAP laser gum treatment include:

  • No drilling sounds
  • No surface vibration
  • Fast healing and recovery time
  • Less invasive than surgery
  • Better patient experience
  • Improved gum health

LANAP Laser Therapy vs. Gum Surgery

Traditional gum surgery, osseous surgery, is typically performed under local anesthesia and requires cutting away infected or diseased gum tissue. While effective and necessary in some cases, there may be minor bleeding and swelling involved. LANAP laser gum therapy is far less invasive since the laser is simply passed over the tissue to kill bacteria and gently remove diseased tissue; healthy tissue is left unharmed and intact. We do not need to place any stitches or cut away any tissue to perform a laser procedure. In most cases, we don’t even need to use anesthesia since the laser is fairly gentle and there is little to no trauma to healthy tissues.
